With the highest respect and acknowledgement held for Elsa Schiaparelli who popularised the "shoulder pad" in the 1930's, to put it simply, shoulder pads are hideous! The two exceptions to the rule of shoulder pads being a no-go are, when coupled with an 80's perm with "Dude Looks Like A Lady" by Aerosmith playing in the background, or, if you are actually Lady Gaga herself. Even then, it's pushing the "Look at me I dress like this on purpose because I'm slightly strange" button! It feels to me the more fashion progresses the more impractical, unflattering and unfeminine it becomes; Please 2010, bring us fashion that doesn't look like it's been pulled out of Viv Hope's wardrobe.

Lady Gaga is horrendous.
ReplyDeleteI think light shoulder definition is nice though. With Victoriana riding jackets and coats and such.
